Steve Jobs, the iconic man behind Apple amazing success has been approved to take medical leave. In an e-mail to employees today Steve Jobs announced a break from work to focus on his health.

While Steve is away Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook will be in charge of the day to day activities. In 2009 Jobs’ took a leave of absence for the same reasons and Cook took charge and made the absence of Jobs’ felt minimally. Although Jobs will be involved during his leave Cook will run Apple, which won’t be much change as Cook was the man behind Jobs.

“Tim Cook did a good enough job covering for Steve for his leave of absence in 2009 to the point that Apple recognized that with a bonus,” Gartner analyst Carolina Milanesi said today. “I think this speaks of how pleased the company was with his work. There is a lot of respect for Tim Cook internally at Apple and externally and he has proved to be able to drive the company well.”

In 2009 jobs was suffering from a hormone imbalance and underwent a liver transplant surgery. He was out only 3 months and went back to work full time. No announcement on how long he will be out this time but the company is in good hands with Cook in charge.
