According to a new report by TC, not only will iOS 5 support the use of text message alert sounds, it will also allow you to set custom alerts for emails, new voicemail, sent email, tweets, calendar and reminder alerts, and possibly more. Finally everybody in the room wont have the same tone.

In the Settings App, click Sounds, and you’ll see the options for changing the text tone, voicemail tone and others. Clicking one of the menu’s brings up a list of your iPhone ringtones including a button to purchase more from iTunes.
Custom text sounds were on of the first things jailbreakers figured out how to do and we’ve been enjoying it ever since. Its the old story hitting us again; Apple stealing another great tweak from Cydia and implementing it in their newest iOS.
