Antivirus firm Avast have released a free security application for current Mac users. The program aims to protect users from malware and online threats, Mac users face a growing number of threats as more and more people switch to the luxury Macintosh computers.

This move is no surprise, antivirus companies are rushing to get their own versions of Mac products out in the market following the news of the Flashback/Flashfake malware outbreak which targeted Apple’s operating system. It is thought the outbreak infected thousands of computers worldwide. Apple will need to invest in their security operations if they want to stay ahead of the game.

Even if you truly believe that viruses and malware is not an issue for you as a user of a Mac, there’s still good reason for installing security software if you want to stay safe.
