The long awaited Kindle Fire HD just got announced by Amazon and it looks amazing with its 8.9″ display. The Kindle Fire HD is only 8.8mm, and weighs 20 ounces. The 8.9″ screen comes with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 (254 ppi). Amazon claims that they have laminated the touch insert on top of the display so that causes 25% less glare. The tablet comes with a OMAP 4470 processor from TI and Amazon claims it’s much faster and better than the Tegra 3.
Amazon has put in dual speakers and also added Dolby Digital Plus. As for the WiFi connectivity on this beast, it supports both 2.4 and 5GHz bands and Amazon says it has two antennas and MIMO. The Kindle Fire HD will have 16GB of storage and Amazon says they have added 100,000 audiobooks to the Kindle Fire HD. You get an HD front-facing camera and custom Facebook & Skype apps. All games are synced to the cloud so you can play where you left off and it also has a new email app.
Amazon has also thought about kids and that’s why they are bringing Kindle FreeTime. Kindle FreeTime basically lets you set time limits for your kids, for different kinds of content. Amazon will be giving the 7″ Kindle Fire HD a pricetag of $199 and the 8.9″ model will be sold for $299. All are available for pre-order today and the 7″ will be shipping September 14. As for the 8.9″ model it will be shipping November 20th.
Amazon will also be offering higher version of the Kindle Fire HD which will be sold for $499. It will have 4G LTE and 32GB of storage. There is a new data plan for this which is 250MB a month. 200GB of cloud storage, $10 Amazon credit for $49.99 per year. This higher version of the Kindle Fire HD is available for pre-order today and will be shipping on November 20.
